We’ve chosen to focus on London’s best neighbourhoods for living. Areas have been selected for their character, amenities and transport links.

This time, we’re putting the spotlight on property for sale in Bermondsey. Way back in 2002, long before London won the Olympic bid, Bermondsey wasn’t exactly regarded as a desirable place to live. Now the tables have turned and it’s become one of the capital’s hotspots.

What’s so Great about Bermondsey?

New properties for sale in Bermondsey appeal largely to young professionals and creatives. Having said that, traditionally SE16 has been dominated by families. Move here and you’ll be living in a very varied place with people from all walks of life.

The area lies on the south bank of the Thames in the London Borough of Southwark. It’s famous for its cobbled streets, warehouses and wharves, some of which have been turned into brand spanking new developments. The most famous is Butler’s Wharf.

It’s an area with rich heritage. Here, you’ll find all sorts of attractions, including the well-regarded Bermondsey antiques market, Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, the Fashion and Textile Museum and Shad Thames.

Properties for sale in Bermondsey are good for those who want to be in the City in minutes but don’t want to pay top dollar for Canary Wharf pads. It’s also a good choice if you want easy access to the West End. Bermondsey itself has some brilliant bars, clubs and restaurants and there’s an excellent emerging cultural scene. There’s a strong sense of community here, which is sometimes lacking in other areas of the capital.
